Student recommendations

Emily, 19, is from Poland and studied at Harrow Academy UK for a fortnight while on a three week holiday staying with relatives who live in the London area.

I came to London for three weeks and I learned English at Harrow Academy UK for two weeks.  There, I met some interesting people (such as Gabriela from Ecuador and Bijita from Nepal) and I attended the course for five days a week.

However, what I enjoyed most during my stay in the UK was visiting London.  One Saturday I bought an Oyster card and headed to the centre.  I got off at Oxford Circus station and went along Regent Street – it was so exciting!  There were so many people from so many other countries all in one place, there were flags hung everywhere and nice shops (I had to enter the Apple store to play Angry Birds on the ipad, of course).  The buildings are huge and beautiful.  There is also this small street called Carnaby Street – really worth seeing!  When I was walking there some women wanted to take a photo of me – she told me I had beautiful sunglasses and she needed this photo for her project.  While she took the photo everyone looked at me as if I was a movie star or something 😉

After that I went to Convent Garden and then walked to the Theatre Royal and also to look at St Paul’s Church.  I still had a lot of time, so next I took the underground to look at the symbol of London – Big Ben.  I was extremely tired, so as soon as I got off at Westminster station I went to Cafe Nero – they havve really nice iced coffee there and as you drink it you can rest enjoy the view of Parliament through their window.

Afterwards, I had to return home because my uncle and his two sons were coming back from Euro 2012.  We had a welcome dinner and Stefan and Tom said they would show me a few places in the centre of London.

So, the following Thursday I went back into the centre and we ate at Wagamama – the best restaurant EVER!  (I ordered the No.43 amai udon – it was sooooo good 😀 ) We also entered a few pubs, drank beer and talked about work and other stuff (in English of course!)  Then we saw China Town at night – really impressive.

I still have another week in London and so far I have enjoyed it very much, especially when I walk along the quiet streets with my fabourite music playing on my ipod.  While walking down streets like Portobello Road it feels like I’m in in a movie.  I hope I can come back and stay longer next time I visit because I love London!

Good luck to all my classmates,

Emily
